Maldives Police Service (MPS) has forwarded 3 cases to Prosecutor General (PG)'s office for prosecution over alleged engagement in homosexuality.

Public Prosecutor at PGO Ahmed Shafeeu told 'One' that they have received 3 cases for prosecution over the leaked videos. Shafeeu did not specify the people the cases were against.

'One' has come to know from sources that the cases forwarded to PGO are that of Nazim Sattar and DED officer Abdul Rahman Rafeeu, who have been arrested following the videos that have been leaked of the men allegedly engaging in homosexuality with a Bangladeshi resident, Alamghir. MPS also forwarded Alamghir's case to PGO for prosecution.

A number of men in different positions within the government and other institutions have since been suspended or fired from their jobs after videos alleging them of engaging in homosexuality have been leaked.

The state has seized passports of 18 individuals as investigations are ongoing, however sources say some people have left the country since the first video was leaked.

In a separate case, former journalist Ali Naseer's remand period has been increased to an additional 10 days as MPS investigate a video that allegedly shows him engaging in homosexuality with another man.
