Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has signed a 'Corporate Scholarship' agreement with Ministry of Higher Education, aimed at A Level Top Ten students.

At a ceremony held at MPL head office on Tuesday, the agreement was signed on behalf of MPL by CEO Shahid Ali, and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan on behalf of the ministry.

MPL 'Corporate Scholarship' is given annually to one student pursuing higher studies in a field related to MPL's work.

The scholarship will be funded by MPL while Higher Education will do the vetting and awarding of scholarship to the selected student.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan said that a lot of students made it to National Top Ten for A Levels, but that scholarships have not yet been announced for high achievers.

He added that MPL's 'Corporate Scholarship' marks the beginning of higher education opportunities for students and that he hopes other government companies follow suite.

Speaking at the ceremony, MPL's CEO Shahid said providing higher education opportunities for students has also been a priority at MPL.

He added that MPL will announce 6 more scholarships in 2022 in fields such as ports operation, health and safety, and different specialisms of engineering.
