India to provide a replacement ship for CGS Huvaree

Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, has announced the country will supply a second Landing Assault Craft (LCA) and a replacement ship for CGS Huravee to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

The announcement was during the joint press conference by Modi and President Solih, as part of his official visit to India.

The leaders noted the strong ties between the countries, noting that Maldives-India defence and security partnership a leading example of regional cooperation in the areas of transnational crimes and disaster relief.

Modi also announced India would gift Maldives an additional 24 utility vehicles for MNDF. President Solih noted India's continued support in modernising MNDF infrastructure and equipment through grant assistance and the USD 50 million Line of Credit facility for defence projects. He thanked Modi and Indian government for the continuous support.
