Aa. Magistrate Court has set a 7-day remand period for Nazim Sattar.

Nazim was taken to the Magistrate Court following his arrest from Maayafushi Resort. He is accused of engaging in homosexual acts with a Bangladeshi resident in Male' City.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) had previously summoned Nazim and taken his statement. The state has also seized his passport.

MPS have also made two other arrests in relation to the leaked videos.

Former president and Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, has criticised the administration over Nazim's arrest, calling it politically motivated to appease hardline extremists in the coalition.
