A German citizen suspected of having Monkeypox has been isolated in Treetop Hospital ER pending further testing.

'One' has come to know from unofficial sources that the man consulted Treetop's general OPD but has since been isolated pending further tests as he presents with Monkeypox symptoms.

Health Minister Ahmed Naseem told 'One' that the ministry has brought enough equipment to test for Monkeypox. He added that the the patient suspected of having Monkeypox has been tested and the results will be out in a week.

Minister Naseem said the Health Ministry will publicise results if any positive cases are found in the Maldives.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) had previously stated that there is a chance of Monkeypox reaching the Maldives.

HPA has urged the public to seek medical attention if anyone shows symptoms of Monkeypox, and to isolate from others.

How Monkeypox spreads:

  • Through respiratory droplets
  • Direct contact with an infected person's rashes or scabs
  • Through clothing and towel of infected person
  • Pregnant people can pass the virus to their foetus

Monkeypox symptoms:

  • Fever, headache, muscle aches and backache
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Chills
  • Exhaustion
  • Blisters-like rashes
