Sri Lanka has sworn-in a new Prime Minister on Friday.
Senior lawmaker and former minister from Podujana Peramuna Party, Dinesh Gunawardena, took oath of office in the presence of president Ranil Wickremesinghe and uniformed military officers, lawyers, and officials.
The new prime minister was sworn-in hours after Sri Lankan security forces raided a protest camp on in Colombo, arresting at least nine protesters.
Ranil has declared a state of emergency in Sri Lanka, and is currently in bailout talks with International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the country continues to suffer acute food, fuel, and medicine shortages in the worst economic crisis to date.
