Maldives Police Service (MPS) has refuted claims of Indian officials entering custodial jail housing suspects detained in relation to the International Yoga Day violence.

MPS released a statement on Monday regarding media reports claiming Indian High Commission members entered the police custodial. The allegations were made by legal representatives of the Yoga Day violence suspects during a press conference on Sunday night.

Addressing the claims, MPS said that the media reports were untrue and intended to tarnish the reputation of MPS, and urged media to verify information from credible sources.

International Yoga Day suspects are being held in custody for investigations following the violence at National Stadium during the event.
