The 'Maldives Tourism Update' published by Tourism Ministry reveals that total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year has crossed 838,000.

India leads the top source market for tourist arrivals, with a total of 123,687 tourist arrivals this year. The United Kingdom remains in the second with 98,621 tourist arrivals. Russia, which remained the top source market for several months has slipped to the third of the list with 84,570 tourist arrivals.. The Russian-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing war has had a strong impact on tourist numbers from the countries.

The top ten tourist markets this year include:

  • Russia - 84,570 arrivals
  • Germany - 68,818 arrivals
  • Italy - 49,828 arrivals
  • America - 40,426 arrivals
  • France - 30,085 arrivals
  • Switzerland - 18,804 arrivals
  • Saudi Arabia - 18,734 arrivals
  • Spain - 16,642 arrivals

According to Tourism Ministry statistics, daily tourist arrivals have been averaging at 4,482, with an average of 8 nights spent in the country.

The government's aims to have 1.6 million tourist arrivals in the country this year.
