Former President and leader of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has said that the biggest betrayal is members of MDP running for Parliament separate from the party in the upcoming Parliamentary elections. He has named this action is a betrayal of the peaceful politics conducted by MDP.

President Nasheed said this at an Agenda ‘19 event where posters and billboards of Parliamentary elections were being put up. He said that one of the most important aspects of a peaceful democracy at MDP is loyalty.  

Nasheed said that there is no bigger betrayal than running separately from MDP in upcoming Parliamentary elections.

Former President Nasheed, who is currently running for Central-Machchangoalhi constituency has said that securing the Male’ votes are vital.

The MDP leader had commented on some party members running for Parliament, separately from the MDP ticket. He has said that MDP is currently facing an election after holding an internal primary election.

He added that although some MDP members are running separately, he urges members of the parry and supporters to vote for MDP candidates.
