Former President Mohamed Nasheed and various other have signed a petition to dismiss members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) from their positions.

While the move had been initiated by Attorney, Mariyam Shunana, she spoke to One Online regarding the matter. Shunana said that the signing of the petition held at artificial beach had petition garnered immense support of many.

She said that the MDP Agenda ‘19 rally had coincidentally also started near the location yesterday. As such, she said that MDP leader and former President, Mohamed Nasheed as well as several MPs and State Ministers stopped by and signed the petition.

The Attorney said that the ACC had failed severely to address the corruption at MMPRC. She said that many had signed  the petition at the protest held on 15 February 2019, calling for the resignation of ACC members. Shunana added that after the petition from Addu City is received, they are ready to submit all signatures to Parliament.

She noted that all efforts are being directed towards being able to push the petition at Parliament next week. Shunana said therefore, that the opportunity to sign the petition is still open.

Attorney Shunana had also initiated a protest on 15 February 2019, calling for the resignation of ACC members. The protest was fueled by claims that the ACC had failed severely to address the corruption at MMPRC.

The protest was joined by various board members and had called strongly against corruption and for the removal of ACC members.

Protestors had urged the reveal of MPs at Parliament who had been compliant with the corruption at MMPRC. The people gathered had also said that these MPs should not be re-elected at this year’s upcoming Parliamentary election.
