Former President Mohamed Nasheed, has said that one of the most vital reasons that the people of Maldives had voted for a change in government, is to be able to reach the truth regarding corruption as well as deaths and disappearances.

President Nasheed said this while speaking at an event of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) at Baa Atoll Fehendhoo. He said that the citizens of Maldives voted for a change in government to reach the truth regarding the embezzlement of funds carried out with the special involvement of the President of this country while in office.

Nasheed said that the people want to investigate and reveal the truth regarding corruption and the increasing deaths and disappearances. He added that the people of Maldives want to live a life that is stable.

Implying the Parliament, President Nasheed said that the duty of the Parliament is to assist in these investigations. He further said that the purpose behind MDP forming a coalition with other parties is to successfully complete what the people have asked for. The former President noted that he is currently not seeing the votes being cast by Coalition members at Parliament for the Bills that will enable these investigations.
