President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday announced his administration's decision to set atoll councils as the beneficiaries of the rent proceedings of the "Atholhu Fihaara" shops.

President Solih made the statment while speaking at the Viavethi Raajje Conference held at Alif Alif Atoll Ukulhas.

Atoll councils currently receive a 50% share of the funds.

President Solih took questions from the attendees at the session and discussed their concerns in detail. He announced the administration’s decision to ensure atoll councils are the beneficiaries of the rent proceedings of the "Atholhu Fihaara" shops designated for each atoll in Malé.

The administration, in May 2019, reversed a 2014 decision that barred atoll councils from the funds.

Spokesperson at the President's Office, Mabrook Aziz revealed to One Online that starting this year, ent proceedings of the "Atholhu Fihaara" shops would be fully provided to atoll councils.

Atoll shops were established during the tenure of former President, Ibrahim Nasir.
