President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the government is building bridges and reclaiming reefs in the capital city area in order to decrease the congestion in the city.
President Solih made the remarks while speaking during the Viavethi Conference being held in Alif Alif Atoll Ukulhas.
During the conference attended by council members and Women's Development Committee members of the central atolls, the President highlighted that the government's developmental projects are related to decentralization for two main things.
This includes finding means to make all inhabited islands wealthy and to provide ease to the congestion in Male' as much as possible.
He added that while speaking about decentralization, many people raise the question as to why there is an additional bridge being constructed in Male' with Giraavaru Reef being reclaimed to give land plots to Male' residents.
He noted that this was the only way to solve the congestion in Male' City, and that changing the main port of the country to Gulhifalhu was also the only logical solution to the issues at hand.
The President further added that all the developmental projects being conducted by the government have the aim of decentralizing Maldives.
