Teacher's salaries have been revised with up to 50% increment under the new salary structure unveiled by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih today.
President Solih declared salary revisions for the education sector during his address to the nation.
Speaking at the press conference held at President's Office today, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer noted that there are 6,815 teachers in Maldivian schools at present.
With the revisions to the salary structures, teachers have been categorised into 5 ranks - Diploma holders, Undergraduates, and Postgraduates - rank 4 and 5 have not yet been filled under the revised structure.
Minister of Education, Aishath Ali, stated that the ranks were determined based on teacher's educational qualifications as well as their service to the education sector. She added that the details will be gazetted soon.
Speaking about the revised salary structures, President Solih said that the decision to increase teacher's salaries is crucial to nation-building. He added that the revision was made to ensure teacher's receive a decent pay outside what they earn overtime.
President Solih further added that this revision will make it easier to find qualified principals and teachers for schools outside Greater Male' region.
Citing the introduction of minimum wage this year, President Solih stated that his administration remains committed to promoting and protecting workers' rights.
