Former Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim has raised allegations that former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor had paid a member of the  Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) MVR 500,000 from the funds of corruption at MMPRC. The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) had been used a front for various schemes of money laundering and corruption at the time when Adeeb was Vice President.

Former Auditor General Niyaz made this allegation while speaking on “Rajje Miadhu” program. He said that the investigation conducted by Al Jazeera regarding the corruption at MMPRC had found that there were text messages exchanged between Adeeb and an member of ACC.

Niyaz added that it was apparent from these texts that Adeeb had given funds to the member and that the member of ACC had received them.

The Former Auditor General said that documents pertaining to the work carried out by ACC and other institutions were being shared with Adeeb at that time by the ACC.

Niyaz said that in addition to ACC, meetings conducted by the Audit Office with other government institutions were also shared with Adeeb by ACC.
