MP for Vilimale’ constituency Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has said that using the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to impose scare tactics against politicians, following the change in Presidency, every single time needs to be stopped by the government.
Nihan was summoned to Maldives Police Service on charges of obstructing the Police from carrying out duties and implementing official duties.
Nihan spoke to both Rajje TV and One Online after leaving the Police station and said that the fear tactics against politicians need to be stopped. He said that this should be done for the sake of this nation's future.
MP Nihan said that they believe that using MPS to impose scare tactics against politicians in violation of the law is an act that needs to be stopped. He added that these acts using institutions that have the confidence of the people, need to be stopped for the sake of this country’s future and its coming generations.
He remarked that questioning people based on charges raised is a duty that should be carried out by the Maldives Police. Nihan also said that he will proceed to answer any questions posed by the Police fully and sincerely with due respect and love for the institution.
While MP Nihan has been summoned to the Police station to provide a statement, a video has been made public, showing Nihan obstructing a Police vehicle during protests. The protests were held this Wednesday, calling for the release of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom who is in detention for the remainder of his trial at Criminal Court.
The video showed Nihan inserting a brick under a Police vehicle after the protests concluded, on the way to PPM campaign hall near the Carnival area.
