The United States of America passed the decision to ask Congress to grant USD 9.75 million to Maldives in aid.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid met with United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, during his official visit to Washington DC. The Office of the Secretary of State had then released a statement declaring that Congress will be asked to grant USD 9.75 million in aid to Maldives.

Talks were held on strengthening bilateral ties between both nations during this meeting. As such, discussions were carried out on increasing efforts and assistance in the area of defence. The United States has passed the decision to therefore offer assistance in the area  of aviation security.

The United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had commended and congratulated the initiative in Maldives to bring about judicial reform.
