Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has been taken to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital’s cardiology department for treatment today.

Criminal Court had ordered for President Yameen to be detained until the remainder of his trial on charges of money laundering at MMPRC. The former President had then been taken to Maafushi Prison.

While President Yameen had been transferred to IGMH to be consulted and treated at the cardiology department. President Yameen’s legal team has informed One Online that the only person notified of President Yameen’s transfer was former First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim and that the legal team was not informed of tbe transfer. One Online has also been informed that President Yameen had not been brought to the hospital upon his request and that at some point, it was said that President Yameen had been brought for a routine medical checkup.

Upon receiving the news that he had been taken to IGMH, several supporters of President Yameen had gathered near the Hospital. The MP for Nilandhoo constituency Abdulla Khaleel had informed that interim President of the People’s National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla had received an injury at the gathering, on his arm and had received treatment for it. The supporters gathered consisted of members of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and PNC.

Deputy CEO of IGMH Mohamed Mufeed has informed One Online that President Yameen has been admitted for 24 hours in the cardiology department.
