A semi-High speed train launched in India has broken down due to braking malfunctions on the first day of its operations.
The train named Vande Bharat Express was officially introduced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The train, was stopped on its maiden voyage from Varanasi City in northern Uttar Pradesh to New Delhi. Indian officials have reported that the train was traveling at a 100 kilometers per hour when a brake malfunction caused the train to stop.
Various Indian media reported that the train driver has said that, in addition to malfunction in braking, several coaches lost electricity and there was a foul smell aboard the train.
There were reportedly several Indian officials and journalists on board the train at the time of the incident who had been transferred to another train.
While the Indian Railway Ministry has said that the incident may have been caused by possible cattle run over, there are reportedly no signs of damage at the front of train.
The Vande Bharat Express train is said to shorten commute times between Varanasi City and New Delhi.
