MNP can win Presidential Election without a coalition: MP Nazim

President of Maldives National Party (MNP) and Dhangethi MP, Colonel (Rtd.) Mohamed Nazim has stated that the party can win the upcoming presidential election without the help of a coalition.

Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday, MP Nazim said that he does not know what a coalition is, adding that even the constitution does not recognize coalitions. However he noted that due to certain chain of events in the political scene, historically coalitions have been required.

After being asked by a reporter whether the involvement of former President Abdulla Yameen in political activities after being freed from his prison term was demotivating for MP Nazim, he said that it does not affect him like that.

He added that the decision of the judiciary should be accepted by everyone and that anyone working in the political scene was something that made him happy.

MNP Vice President and Thimarafushi MP Abdulla Riyaz stated that Presidency could be won in the Maldives even without a coalition. That is if the candidates who came first and second during the first round of elections also run for the second round.
