A decision has been taken by the Cabinet to ratify a SAARC Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation (Electricity). The agreement will facilitate generation and sale of electricity using renewable sources.

The President's Office reported that the move was taken under advisement of the Attorney General. The Office also reported that the conclusive decision to ratify the agreement was taken following discussions at a Cabinet meeting held today.

The agreement will facilitate the production of electricity from renewable energy as well as its sale among nations of the SAARC.

The President’s Office also reported that, similar to other nations under SAARC, Maldives will also make leaps of progress in the creative and technological field due to the agreement.
