A 43 kilometer long distance swim marathon is set to be be held in Maldives in efforts to promote tourism.

In an event held by the Ministry of Tourism, the swim marathon titled “Swim Maldives Baa BR Crawl 2019” was launched.

While the marathon was launched with the initiative taken by Swim Maldives, Hussain Shameem spoke on behalf of the initiative regarding the event. He said that the event is a long distance swim and that the swim will be conducted as a tour.

The swim is set to take place in Baa Atoll.

Hussain Shameem has said that the swim will begin at B. Eydhafushi and end at B. Kendhoo. He said that the swim will take place with breaks in between every five kilometer distances. He reiterated that the swim is to take place from B. Eydhafushi to Soneva Fushi and then to Nelivaru Finolhu followed by Maalhos. There will reportedly be a total of 23 islands that will become breaks in the long distance swim.

Shameem said that the swim is to take place daily during the event from 8:30 am till 12:00 pm. He said that eight swimmers are set to take part in the swim and noted that one of the participants is a national level swimmer. Shameem also said that MNDF support, four canoes and a dinghy will be available as safety measures during the event.

He said that the event will work to advertise the natural beauty of Maldives as well as to promote Maldives as a destination for swimming. Shameem noted that one of the aims of the event is also to promote water sports and water activities among locals.

He gravely noted a third aim in promoting the event and said that it is in regards to -albeit few - drowning incidents among children. Shameem said the event will work to create awareness on the issue and promote measures for preventing such incidents.
