Former President Mohamed Nasheed, has said that the Bill barring ex-Presidents from campaigning for a position in Parliament in unconstitutional. He added that he does not believe that President Solih would ratify the Bill.
President Nasheed said this while speaking at a “Rajje TV” program “Fashaa Iru” this morning.
He said that President Solih himself has also said that bringing about an amendment in violation of any basic rights is unconstitutional. He said therefore that he does not believe that President Solih would ratify the amendment.
President Nasheed reiterated that he additionally does not believe that such an amendment will pass through the floor of Parliament. He also said that there is not nearly enough time for that at this time of Parliamentary sitting.
The former President said that there are certain people with grievances whenever he campaigns for a positions and that issues also arose when he campaigned for President.
