South African authorities have intercepted 116 kg of Rhino horns on its way to being smuggled out of the country.
South African customs service reports that the horns were worth $1.3 million.
The service informed that the horns were intercepted through sniffer-dogs at the O. R. Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) near Johannesburg, South Africa.
South African authorities revealed that the horns were very well wrapped and hidden in various other items. According to South African Revenue Service (SARS), the boxes were marked to arrive at Dubai, UAE.
While Rhino poaching to collect horns is common practice, the horns are sold at exuberant prices in China and Vietnam. The horns are typically said to be used in traditional medicines.
