The World Health Organization (WHO) branch in Maldives congratulates the Ministry of Transport on it's move to mandate wearing helmets on Sinamale' Bridge.

A tweet posted by the WHO office in Maldives, noted that wearing helmets brings down accident rates by up to 70 per cent. The organization's tweet further noted that the death toll due to accidents also decrease by 40 per cent with safety helmets.

WHO noted that the majority of permanent or life threatening injuries due to accidents occur from head injuries.

The Ministry of Transport announced that all riders on the Sinamale' bridge are required to wear helmets starting from 10 March 2019.
