Elections Commission has said that they were not aware that the political party, Maldives Third-way Democrats (MTD), had a president.

The President elected by MTD was former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb. The Elections Commission however noted that Adeeb will not be able to serve as a President of a political party as he is currently serving a prison sentence.

MTD have however named Adeeb as the President of the party till date.

Speaking at a press conference held by the Elections Commission today, the Chairman of the Commission said that a convict serving a prison sentence cannot be an elected senior official of any political party.
