The Eighteen-year-old Saudi woman, Rahaf al-Qanun, who fled the country, has been granted refugee status by the United Nations. Rahaf claims to have fled her country after her family threatened to kill her.

She had managed to escape en route to Kuwait and attempted to enter Australia via Thailand. Rahaf however encountered issues with acquiring visa and gotten stalled at Thailand.

Rahaf, who is currently at a detention center in Thailand under the care of the United Nations can only enter Australia by acquiring refugee status.

While the UN has now granted Rahaf refugee status, the Australian authorities have begun conducting security procedures to allow her to enter the country.

While Rahaf's family had attempted to meet with her, the United Nations had prevented the meeting.
