Due to a change in the regulation employed by the Malaysian government on accepting foreign driver’s license, the Maldivian driver’s license is no longer valid in Malaysia.

A statement issued by the Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia today said that the Malaysian government has stopped accepting and converting foreign driver’s licenses temporarily due to the reform efforts of the Malaysian Ministry of Transport.

And so, the documents provided by the Maldivian Embassy for Maldivian driver’s are no longer valid and the embassy advised against using the embassy document as a driver’s license.

The Embassy said that those who have acquired a driving license from a driving school in Malaysia can still drive legally along with those who have obtained an international driver’s license.

With foreign driver’s license being invalid in Malaysia, the Maldivian Embassy in the country is discussing with Malaysian officials to find a quick solution as it would affect the Maldivian population in Malaysia.
