Maldives Police Service has informed that they are working towards installing speed-monitoring cameras on the Sinamale' Bridge highway and that a text message will be immediately sent to those exceeding the speed limit.
Chief Station Inspector of Maldives Police Service Mohamed Hassan spoke on the "Rajje Miadhu" program on channel PSM, regarding the installation of surveillance cameras at the Sinamale' Bridge. The Chief Station Inspector said that the work of conducting technical surveys and analysis inspecting the bridge is now complete and that Maldives Police Service have begun working towards implementing these plans.
He further reiterated that there will be a fine imposed on those exceeding the legal speed limit on the Sinamale' Bridge highway. Hassan said that Maldives Police are working towards implementing a system where an immediate text message will be sent to the mobile phone of the person exceeding the speed limit, notifying them of the fine imposed.
The Chief Station Inspector said that a command center is to be established to survey the security of the bridge and that if any vehicles violate road rules or change lanes in an illegal maneuver, the command center will notify them immediately. He also said that the vehicles that change lanes within every 100 meters will also be notified by the command center.
While there have been numerous accidents on the Sinamale' Bridge to date, there have been several serious injuries sustained by those involved.
