Former Attorney General Ms. Dhiyana Saeed notes that it is more important to look at the devoutness and character of a person rather than looking at whether they are wealthy or poor (regarding upcoming Parliamentary elections).

Dhiyana made the comment on twitter replying to a tweet that had been sent out. The original tweet said that the current political climate can only be changed by focusing decentralization efforts on an island-by island basis. The tweet also said that resolving issues with Parliament cannot be brought about unless it is 'cleared out' of all the wealthy members.

Replying to this tweet, Dhiyana noted that some people did not even own 'a pair of shoes to wear' when they had decided to run for the 18th Parliamentary body of Maldives. Dhiyana further reiterated that by the end of that Parliamentary term, members had sported '10 to 12 Rolex watches' as well as several flats and expensive cars. She ended the tweet by stating that it is therefore more important to look at the 'character' (of the candidate running for Parliament).
