Current Minister for Home Affairs Sheikh Imran Abdullah said that the former Vice President of Maldives Mr. Ahmed Adeeb was taken back to prison after the end of the duration of house arrest advised by doctors.

A tweet sent out by Sheikh Imran stated that doctors had advised that Adeeb should recuperate in a "homely environment" on the 24th of October 2018. He further stated that after the 24th of December 2018, doctors had not advised house rest for Adeeb.

The Minister for Home Affairs further assured in the tweet that the state will be ensuring that Adeeb receives the proper treatment as per set proceedings and further reiterated that the current administration will not hold anyone in violation with their fundamental human rights.

Former Vice President Mr. Ahmed Adeeb was sentenced to 33 years in prison following a conviction rendered regarding several cases against him.

Speaking at a press conference held by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Minister Sheikh Imran said that there are several prison sentences against Adeeb and that the Correctional Services have been given the responsibility of implementing these sentences. Sheikh Imran further assured that the carrying out of these sentences will continue as before.
