President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has formed an institute of the government named 'National Disaster Management Authority'. 

Following the formation of the National Disaster Management Authority today, the previously established National Disaster Management Center which was run under the Ministry of Defense has now been replaced. This new institution was formed under the executive authority granted by Article 26 (a) of the National Disaster Management Act (28/2015) to the President.

The National Disaster Management Authority will serve to prevent disasters while special attention has been given to working on minimizing the impact in the event of a disaster. The purpose of this authority is to establish a system where they work together with the atoll regions, islands and national and government organizations as well as private institutions that deal with disaster management.
