President Ibrahim Solih states that although it is currently being said that there is a lack of employment opportunities in resorts as well as service charge being denied to its employees, steps are being taken towards resolving the issue.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Guesthouse Symposium 2018, the President assured that the Ministry of Tourism will be working towards addressing these complaints and ensuring that the payment of service charge to employees is undertaken in accordance with the law.
“We are currently hearing complaints from some resorts regarding the withholding of service charge payments to its employees as well as regarding discrepancies in the share of job opportunities available to locals in accordance with the law” said the President. “I would like to take the opportunity to assure that, in order to address these complaints, the Ministry of Tourism will be working on ensuring that the payment of service charge is being undertaken in accordance with the law”
The President further stated that there will be developments in the revision and implementation of the rules and regulations of the labor workforce and that one of the means of accomplishing this is by providing tax incentives to resorts and guesthouses that employ greater percentages of locals. He also highlighted that this step will secure job opportunities for locals in resorts.
