Former President Mohamed Nasheed states that the biggest debt owed to the people of Maldives by political leaders is not addressing the issue of housing.
Speaking at an event held at Hulhumale’ as part of the campaign of current Deputy Chairperson of MDP and Parliamentary hopeful Mr. Ali Niyaz, Nasheed said that housing in Male’ has been narrowed, divided and distributed to the point where it cannot be further divided.
“After numerously dividing and distributing the housing in Male’, that (housing) in the city is so limited and small that there is no other way, and no further divisions or distributions that can be made right now.” said Nasheed. “Therefore, the biggest debt owed by political leaders to the Maldivian people is the debt of solving the issue of housing in Male. The way to accomplish this is at the place where a people assemble together in a small space - at the Parliament”
Former President Mr. Mohamed Nasheed has also stated that members of the next term of
of Maldivian Parliament – to be elected in 2019 - will be a group that will be able to hold the corrupt and criminal accountable.
He has also highlighted that it is imperative to have the support of the members of Parliament in bringing the corrupt and criminal to justice. Nasheed said that justice can only be served, and the peoples’ stolen finances can only be returned to them with the support of the members of Parliament. He expressed that the behavior of current parliament towards the Presidential Commission assigned by President Ibrahim Solih is evidence enough that Parliamentary cooperation is needed to accomplish such a task.
