Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to submit to the Parliament an impeachment motion against High Court’s Chief Judge Shujau Usman.

JSC made the decision during a meeting today.

While JSC has decided to push for an impeachment motion against Shujau Usman, he was placed under a 60-day suspension by in July.

He is being investigated for an unofficial visit to G. A. Gemanafushi during the campaign for the presidential elections in 2018, during which he actively campaigned for a presidential candidate as well as meeting with family members of a suspect arrested under Criminal Court order, and telling them that he would free the suspect from jail in exchange for their vote in the presidential elections.

JSC has stated that the report has been submitted to Shujau, after presenting Shujau with seven days to come up with a defense for the report.

Following his suspension, Shujau Usman’s responsibilities as the chief judge of High Court were taken over by Judge Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya.
