Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem has said that his office has sent a total of 46 cases of sexual harassment was sent to court during the lock down.

He took to Twitter to share statistics on sexual harassment cases during the lock down.

According to the statistics, the average age of the accused in sexual offenses during the lock down is 35 and the Maldives Police Service takes 88 days on average to send case to the Prosecutor General’s Office who takes about three days to send to court.

“We do get involved in inv stage so we already have access to documents. Still a remarkable achievement.” The Prosecutor General said.

The statistics show that 15 cases were sent to court in April and 28 cases in May while three cases have been sent to court this month so far.

Cases sent to court include using a minor in a criminal offence, asking for sexual favors from children, going to houses for a sexual act, sexual assault and attempted sexual assault.
