The judiciary committee of the parliament has decided to remove Judge Abdul Ghanee Mohamed from the Supreme Court and has sent the case to the parliament floor to be made a decision today.

After the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) filed a dismissal case at the parliament against the Supreme Court judge, it was forwarded to the judiciary committee which ruled in support of the JSC decision and the report that was sent to the parliament floor states that the JSC ruling is legitimate one.

Head of the committee, the MP for North Maafannu constituency, Imthiyaz Fahumee presented the report to the parliament floor today. Speaking at the parliament sitting today, the Speaker of the Parliament, the former President, Mohamed Nasheed, said that the parliament will complete the dismissal of a judge today.

Following the decision to remove Judge Ghanee from the Supreme Court, he was also suspended by 60 days.

JSC led an investigation into the Supreme Court Judge and said that he had a hand in decisions made by the Supreme Court that were outside the Constitution.

While Judge Ghanee is set to be removed from the Supreme Court, the parliament has previously removed the Chief Justice, Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi along with the Supreme Court Judge, Mohamed Abdulla. And on 28 August, the parliament removed Judge Abdulla Didi as well from the Supreme Court.
