The name of the Presidential nominee for Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem, has been sent to the parliament committee for review.

The position was left vacant after Aishath Bisam resigned as the Prosecutor General last Thursday. Her resignation came during a time when the Parliament Committee on Judiciary was investigating her for a potential impeachment.

Former Deputy Prosecutor General Mariyam Nihayath and Former Deputy Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem along with Lawyer Ahmed Zaneen applied for the position.

In a tweet sent yesterday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih confirmed that he had sent the name of Hussain Shameem to the Parliament for approval as the Prosecutor General.

Shameem who is also a practicing lawyer currently had previously received widespread support to be brought into the position of PG.

His name has since been forwarded to the Judiciary Committee for further review and consideration.
