Former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor moved to house arrest with a monitoring tag after a number of days in the hospital for treatment to an injury sustained in jail.
Maldives Correctional Service has confirmed the transfer but no further details were offered. Police can now monitor the movements of the former Vice President.
Sources say that Adeeb was transferred to house arrest last night.
Adeeb was in house arrest previously before fleeing the country on the Indian tugboat “Vaago 9” to India before being arrested and brought back to the country.
He was then detained in Maafushi Prison until the corruption investigation against him is completed. The former Vice President then got injured in prison after falling in the toilet and brought to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City for treatment.
Adeeb has also testified against the former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in the money laundering charge, as a witness for the prosecution.
In his testimony at the court, Adeeb admitted to numerous criminal activity under the orders of the former President.
