Former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor, has said that the former President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom was aware that the USD one million that was deposited to his account from the SOF Company came from the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
Testifying as a witness for the prosecution at the hearing of the former President today, Adeeb responded to a question from the defence stating that when the SOF Company went to the bank to deposit the money, the Bank Manager contacted President Yameen.
However, Adeeb said that he was told of the Bank Manager’s call by the SOF Company.
While the former President had said that the money in his account were campaign funds donated by different people, today in court, Adeeb repeatedly said that there were no campaign funds in Yameen’s account.
Adeeb said that campaigns received very few funds and at the end of every elections, political parties end up in debt.
The former Vice President said that Yameen ordered him to deposit MMPRC money to his account and bring money to him and admitted to doing so himself.
