Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj has submitted to MDP Parliamentary Group to seek a motion of no confidence on Prosecutor General, Aishath Bisam.
In a tweet sent out on Friday, MP Siraj confirmed that he had submitted to the PG Group to seek a motion of no confidence since there was no trust in PG Bisam. He added that even though an MP can submit to the Parliament to seek a motion of no confidence on those in Independent Institutions, the decision to go through the PG Group was made since it was the right way to go about things.
MP Siraj had submitted the issue to the PG Group three weeks ago, though it has not been scheduled at the PG Group as of yet.
MP Siraj revealed to 'One Online' that he submitted to seek a motion of no confidence on 22nd of July, after the questions the PG gave during the Judiciary Committee Meeting raised questions about the trust people could put in her.
One of the things highlighted by MP Siraj include the failure to submit any of the two reports that the PG is supposed to submit to the parliament as stated in the Prosecution Guideline.
While MP Siraj had submitted to seek a motion of no confidence, PG Bisam has been receiving heavy criticism for how she had handled several cases such as the disappearance of Rilwan and Abdulla Rasheed, who died after being arrested during the May Day Protest.
This is the first time that a no confidence motion is being sought against PG Bisam during the 19th session of the Parliament.
