One Media launches women’s magazine Hiyala

One Media Group has launched the first issue of their new monthly women’s magazine, “Hiyala”.

The magazine was launched at a special ceremony held at the One Media office yesterday. The magazine features content in both Dhivehi and the English language.

Cover feature of the first edition is an interview with the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula. The first issue also features historic documents related to women.

Editor of Hiyala, Minha Faiz Rashaad (Minnu) said that the purpose of the magazine is to empower women and raise their voices on a national level to open opportunities to excel in different fields.

She said that there are no such magazines that currently fit that description and so it is much needed so that their voices can be heard and their efforts can be valued. And that can help to change people’s mind.

In an interview with One Online, Minha said that the opportunity to contribute to Hiyala on various fields are open to those who are interested.

“Hiyala is not for sale. This magazine would be available until the prints run out. And so, for writers, my request is to take it as a national service and do it for free. We have to put forth the thinking of doing such things for free.” Minha said.

As the first issue of Hiyala has been published under the umbrella of One Media Group, they have an online news outlet in the forms of One Online Dhivehi Edition and the One Online English Edition.
