The Criminal Court has sentenced former Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Procurement Department Chief Manager Mohamed Aiman, S. Feydhoo, to eight years, nine months and 18 days in prison for his role in a fuel fraud case involving MVR 6.7 million.

Aiman was convicted on two charges linked to fuel procurement transactions carried out in 2019 and 2020, when he was responsible for MPL’s procurement operations.

The court found him guilty of misappropriating 783,100 litres of diesel purchased through Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) and approving 119 delivery notes for fuel that MPL had not received. The transactions resulted in a loss of MVR 6.7 million.

He was sentenced to eight years in prison for criminal breach of trust and a further nine months and 18 days for knowingly making false statements in documents. The court also ordered him to repay MVR 6.7 million to the State.

MPL dismissed Aiman on 23 March 2021. Although the Employment Tribunal initially ordered his reinstatement, the High Court later overturned the decision and ruled that he was entitled to only MVR 1 in compensation.
