The proposed 2027 State Budget includes plans to develop a picnic island in every atoll in the Maldives, Finance Minister Hassan Zareer has announced.

Presenting the budget to Parliament, the Minister said the initiative aims to provide families and friends with opportunities to spend quality time together and promote social well-being.

He said the Government also prioritises climate resilience and economic diversification to support sustainable national development.

The budget will give greater priority to projects such as the Climate Adaptation Model Island Project to strengthen climate preparedness and ensure the environmental sustainability of islands.
