The Bank of Maldives (BML) has been included in the 2026 "World's Top Performing Banks" list compiled by the global business magazine Forbes in partnership with market research firm Statista.
This inaugural ranking features 500 banks from 89 countries, marking a historic milestone that highlights BML operating at par with major international financial institutions and bringing immense pride to the Maldivian banking sector.
Banks on the list were rigorously evaluated based on four key financial and operational metrics: profitability, growth and revenue quality, capital and funding strength, and asset quality and operational efficiency. The study utilized trusted data sources including S&P Capital IQ, published bank reports, and independent research. Among the six tiers categorized by asset size, BML was placed in Tier 6, which comprises banks with total assets ranging between USD 3 billion and USD 10 billion, reflecting its robust financial performance, sound risk management, and sustainable growth.
BML's CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef, stated that this ranking, benchmarked against similarly sized banks worldwide using financial statistics, reaffirms that BML is a strong, well-capitalized institution built on sound management. He noted that the recognition demonstrates the bank's reliable service for customers and proven growth for shareholders.
As the national bank, BML emphasized that it remains fully committed to fulfilling its responsibilities toward the Maldivian economy, strengthening its foundational pillars, and continuing to invest in technology and its workforce to support local businesses, the wider community, and future service delivery.
