The Maldives Zakat House disbursed MVR 5.1 million in assistance to various recipients in August, a 12 per cent increase compared with the MVR 4.6 million distributed during the same month last year.

The largest share, MVR 2.5 million, was allocated to the Fi Sabilillah category. This included MVR 1 million for religious programmes, MVR 797,604 in higher education assistance, MVR 579,585 for book translations and MVR 120,414 for Quran memorisation programmes and the promotion of Quranic knowledge.

A further MVR 2.3 million was distributed to the poor and needy, with the largest portion allocated for medical assistance. The fund also provided MVR 42,500 for essential needs, MVR 60,061 to support people in debt and MVR 19,834 to stranded travellers.

The Zakat House also received MVR 7.3 million in zakat contributions during August.
