Fuel sheds capable of providing fuel at State Trading Organization (STO) rates have been established in eight islands across eight atolls of the Maldives, and services have commenced from those locations.

Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed stated in a post on X today that this is an initiative launched to fulfill President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to ensure that fishermen and the general public in every atoll can obtain fuel at affordable prices. The Minister noted that this work is progressing very rapidly.

Islands where fuel sheds have been established and services commenced:

  • HA. Ihavandhoo
  • HDh. Hanimaadhoo
  • B. Eydhafushi
  • Sh. Milandhoo
  • F. Nilandhoo
  • Dh. Meedhoo
  • R. Dhuvaafaru
  • Dh. Kudahuvadhoo

Saeed stated that under this project, the government's aim is to complete establishing arrangements for this service to be available across all cities and atolls throughout the Maldives before November 2027.

Highlighting the ease and relief this change will bring to the public, the Minister stated that this is an important achievement that will reduce energy expenditures, particularly for fishermen and those engaged in various industrial activities. Furthermore, Saeed noted that by shortening the long journeys previously required to procure fuel and saving time, it will bring major relief to the hardships the public has endured for many years.
