The 11th edition of the Maldives' largest and most prestigious futsal tournament, the Golden Futsal Challenge, has been scheduled and announced to commence on March 27 next year.

Since its launch in 2015, the Golden Futsal Challenge has grown steadily in popularity. Across the last three editions, more than 120 teams have competed in each tournament, with approximately 300 matches played per edition.

Gaining momentum each year, the previous edition achieved widespread success alongside groundbreaking enhancements. Record numbers of spectators filled the stands, showcasing the fierce island and atoll-level passion and rivalry that defines the competition.

As the nation's biggest sporting event, the tournament also drew record-breaking viewership across its digital streaming platforms.

With the upcoming edition also slated to kick off with the Charity Shield match, team registration for the opening phase is now open. Island and city councils are invited to submit their participation, with the registration window closing on the 18th of next month.

Last year, the Golden Futsal Challenge made Maldivian sports history by introducing Video Support (VS), alongside several regulatory updates aimed at refining the competition.

Because the primary objective of the competition is to encourage athletes to represent their native islands and elevate community-level futsal spirit, rules have been updated this year to restrict players from competing for islands other than their place of birth.

Golden Futsal Association President Rilwan Moosa stated that continuous efforts will be made to further improve the tournament, reassuring fans and participants of the association's commitment to delivering a high-quality sporting spectacle.
