Parliamentary Majority Leader and Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah has rejected claims that the Maldives Pension Administration Office's decision to invest MVR 2.4 billion in government bonds amounts to printing money.

Speaking during Tuesday's sitting of Parliament, Falah responded to criticism from opposition members and some economists following the Pension Office's decision to invest in government bonds issued by the Ministry of Finance in both Maldivian rufiyaa and US dollars.

Falah argued that using money already held in savings or investment funds does not constitute money printing. He said banks routinely use customer deposits to issue loans and make investments, and the same principle applies to pension fund investments.

He also dismissed allegations that the Government was printing money, describing such claims as misleading and intended to confuse the public.
