Additional lifts at Hiyaa Tower 16 in Hulhumalé Phase II have been officially opened, providing residents with improved access and helping ease long-standing lift congestion.

The project was carried out as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to address lift shortages in the Hiyaa housing development. Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib inaugurated the additional lifts.

The project added two lifts to Hiyaa Tower 16, including a 21-passenger lift that can accommodate stretchers and a 14-passenger lift. The lifts are also equipped with Braille floor markings to improve accessibility for visually impaired users.

The additional lifts are expected to improve daily access for residents and make it easier to transport patients during emergencies.

The project was implemented by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), which awarded the contract to a Chinese company in 2024.
